Blog No. 21 - Blog no. 21 - Grounding through the power of energy
Grounding is our ability to be plugged into the Earth’s energy. All creations are connected automatically except humans who need to use their awareness and intentions to ground and stay grounded in her. The more we are in survival, the riskier the connection as we lose both awareness and intention when in this state; eventually, with much use of survival strategies, we lose the connection with Earth and through this, our connection with our bodies and so we become numb, dissociated and not fully living.
The consequences of the overuse of survival strategies are the loss of joy, (we cannot just disconnect from fear or anger), listlessness, brain fog (we cannot disconnect only from the painful thoughts) and trying to liven ourselves by artificial means (shopping, social media and other myriad distractions), which in turn may create even more disconnect.
Grounding is available to us as an alternative to the above. It allows us to be in the present tense, to feel ourselves and our environment, to be in the centre of our bodies and our lives, to heal and grow, to move beyond survival into embodying a full and rich life.
Here are a few tools that we can use to ground.
Starting with your BREATH; inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth with a big sigh to release excess and possibly stuck energy in the body. Check in after about 10 breaths; if you cannot feel your feet on the earth, keep going. This may be enough and the more you do this, the faster and easier it will get.
If after many breaths you are still not feeling your body or parts of it, MASSAGE your feet, spread the toes widely and move the feet up and down, side to side. If you are sitting on the floor (highly recommended), feel your buttocks and the side of the legs that are touching Earth and spread your hands on the ground. You now have a bigger surface to connect. You can even lie down on your belly or back and feel the front and/or back of the body. Putting some PRESSURE on these parts until they feel heavy may help as well. Having a weighted blanket or a physical load on your body (such as a sandbag) can support you as well.
TAP lightly under your low eyelids; you are now connecting with the stomach meridian, part of the Earth element, which will help you feel the connection through the second toe in each foot. Otherwise, tap lightly on your thighs, each hand on the same-side thigh doing the tapping.
Using one hand on the crown of the head, FLIP the hand back and forth on the top of your head to change electrical polarity (Mother Earth’s polarity is negative so ours needs to be positive in order to create a circuit).
If VISUALIZATION is something that you can use, see in your mind’s eye a strong chord that connects your belly button with the centre of Earth. Keep coming back to the chord, changing its fibres, color and strength as needed.
Walk BAREFOOT anytime you can or choose socks that are made of natural fibres that transmit electrical charge (cotton, wool, linen, hemp, bamboo and silk). Unfortunately, most shoe soles are made of synthetic materials, one of the main causes of losing our connection with Earth.
SIT under a tree with your back on it and do the techniques mentioned above. It is quite obvious that trees are very grounded and their energy will help you ground as well.
SHAKE yourself all over exhaling through the mouth. I call this a temper tantrum for adults. The shaking will release pent up energy, give possibly expression to the stuck emotions in the body (cry or scream if this is what’s coming up for you), will create more calmness and also grounding.
Do a BODY SCAN starting with your feet and work your way up. You can check in with the left side of the body and then the right one, starting from bottom to top; otherwise, starting with scanning the front and then the back body. It is helpful to TOUCH the areas you are focusing on or even MASSAGE them to wake them up from their slumber. Eventually, you will be able to do the whole scan in your mind’s eye and it may not take much time.
Practice TADASANA or otherwise called mountain pose, learning to stand like a mountain so nothing can topple you. Mountains are even more grounded than trees. Find a video of Tadasana by using your search engine so you can see how it looks from the outside.
Practice every day any of the above, starting with ASKING yourself;
Do I feel my connection with Earth through my body? Can I feel any part of my body right now?
Can I feel emotions and sensations without judgment?
Where in my body do I feel the above?
These questions start the intention for connection and will direct the body towards grounding.
Express GRATITUDE as this is not to be taken for granted.
Remember, without grounding, healing, joy, inner peace and the loveliness of life cannot happen so please commit daily to your well-being.
Questions, comments and feedback are all welcome.
With my warmest blessings for your wholesomeness,
Lydia
