Emotions, Energy and the Body

Blog 11-1 top.jpg

In the previous blog, emotions were named as being a part of the natural flow of our life.  Also, blocking this flow on our bodies has been examined and ways in which we can restore it were offered.

In this blog, we can look further into how our bodies take on emotions when there is no outlet for them, and again, ways of letting go and releasing them will be offered, some in this blog and some as I continue writing to you.

We have 7 main energy centres in the body in which 72,000 energy micro hubs accumulate.  These hubs run along meridians and connect, energize and restore every part of our body. Emotions are one of the manifestations of the vibrations of energy.  When we are content and peaceful, the flow between all the hubs and the centres is continuous and smooth.  This is easily witnessed in babies and children, who are mostly content and recover quickly from mishaps . Unfortunately, as we go through life and experience the opposite, we start creating and accumulating negative emotions without being aware of the price we pay.  These emotions start taking their toll on the body and block the flow between the energy hubs and the centres, causing exhaustion, apathy, increased reactivity and decreased ability to enjoy and savour life.

Let’s look briefly at each centre, what it represents and what happens as it gets blocked.

First energy centre – the root

This centre includes the pelvis and the organs in the area, the reproductive and urinary-bowel organs. In energetic terms, this is the seat of innocence, purity, wisdom and joy. This is how we mostly come into the world.

If tis area is blocked, we will experience fear, insecurity, mistrust, rootlessness, inability to access our internal wisdom and misery.

Second energy centre – the sacrum

The sacrum is the sacred bone that runs along the low of our back where the life force inside us dwells.  It was named by the Greeks who knew of the significance of it.  It includes the kidneys, the liver, the pancreas and spleen and part of the intestines.  This is where we access pure knowledge (intuition) and creativity.

When we accumulate negative emotions that have nowhere to go, we will limit access to our inner knowing, our internal compass will be lost and our creative juices will dry up.

Third energy centre – the stomach/sternum.

This is a large energy centre and is comprised of the stomach, the colon, other internal organs, the immune system and neuro-transmitters “factory”.

Energetically, it is the seat of abundance, mastery, clarity and self-fulfillment. As it gets blocked, scarcity, fogginess, “stumbling” and emptiness will be experienced.

Fourth energy centre  - the heart

This centre has the heart, the lungs and the chest cavity in it. It is the place of detached (pure) love, motherhood and compassion. In the Sahaja tradition of yoga, this is the seat of the spirit.  When it is not healthy, we will experience lack in every relationship we have, feel unlovable/unloved, resentful, even hateful. We will not be able to “breathe in life” and bestow love, nurturing and compassion onto others. We will not be connected with the divine inside us and in every other being.

Fifth energy centre – the throat

Here our voice resides as well as our sense of belonging. This is where some of our personal power comes from (the other one is in the stomach centre). Here we have the ability to use our voice truthfully and with diplomacy for the benefit of the collective. When  this centre is healthy, we can be a detached witness, not taking on other’s people energy and not “dumping” on others our energy.  Blockage will deprive us of our voice, therefore feeling helpless, weak and small. We will not feel a part of something bigger than us and we will have nothing to contribute to the collective.  We will feel tremendous guilt with no recourse.

Sixth energy centre  - the third eye

This centre is in the middle of the forehead or, in some traditions, it is placed in between the two eyebrows.  It is the seat of forgiveness and humility.  The inability/unwillingness to forgive ourselves and others can create a great deal of unhappiness and health issues and it will feed the ego rather than the spirit and heart. We will be in “our head” and disconnected from the rest of the body.  Thoughts will be valued over emotions, thus creating further blockage.

Seventh energy centre – the crown

Blog 11-2 body-small.jpg

This centre sits on top of the limbic system in the brain. It is our direct connection with the divine. As the life force, the Kundalini, starts raising from the second centre (the sacrum) through the third, fourth, fifth and sixth centre, it will emerge onto the seventh in a thousand refractions of light which can be seen and filmed by some people and named as part of the aura (the invisible energetic protective shield every being is surrounded by). Blockages in the lower centres will not allow the life force to rise and heal the higher centres. If the life force is able to rise unfettered, every energy centre in its way will be healed from all the above-mentioned blockages.

It is impossible to go through life without experiencing any negativity and not every negative emotion wreaks havoc on our bodies, minds and spirits.  Here, the emphasis is on the accumulation of negativity with no way of knowing what is happening, surrendering, releasing or letting go.

One way to become more aware and start the detoxifying process is by having a daily practice.  One of the daily practices offered by Sahaja yoga (freemeditation.ca) is a foot soak with cool water and sea salt.  The combination of meditation and foot soak works towards the unblocking of accumulated negativity.  The meditation focuses on each energy centre and asks the divine for help with the cleansing and the release of unneeded/ harmful emotions.  When space is being created in each centre by the release, we ask to fill it with the qualities that are inherent in each centre.  Over time, we become sensitive to the knowledge of which energy centres are affected and we direct pure attention and desire towards healing these areas.  As we do this day in and day out, less and less gets accumulated, we feel more energized and full of the vibrancy of life.  We have the ability to heal ourselves and become more and more in tune with our real self.

I welcome any questions and comments as the above are difficult to express in words which do them justice

With blessings for your health,

Lydia
